I installed the chipset driver, video driver, ethernet driver, and sound driver in that order, however I could only download the Vista version since they do not make a Windows 7 version.

Do you see icons for your sound device now? If HP doesn't have Windows 7 drivers, try the Vista drivers. If you now see it you may need to right click on the correct sound device souns select "Set as default device".
